About This Product

Sapphire windows feature extreme hardness and wide optical transmission from UV (190nm) to mid-IR. High acoustic velocity, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and high transparency. Custom coating designs available. Sapphire optical windows combine extreme mechanical hardness (Mohs 9) with broadband transmission from 180nm to 4.5um, making them uniquely suited for the most demanding applications. Their exceptional scratch resistance makes them the standard choice for watch crystals, barcode scanner windows, and underwater camera ports where physical durability is paramount. Sapphire also provides excellent chemical inertness, resisting virtually all acids and alkalis at room temperature, which is critical for analytical instrumentation and downhole sensing in oil and gas exploration. The high thermal conductivity and thermal shock resistance enable reliable operation at temperatures exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius. PhotonEdge sapphire windows are available in diameters from 5mm to 100mm with 40-20 or 20-10 surface quality. Both uncoated and AR-coated versions support UV through MWIR applications. For extreme pressure applications, thickness can be increased beyond standard catalog dimensions, with pressure-rated designs available for subsea and downhole environments.
