Material Options

Select the optimal optical material based on your wavelength, power, thermal environment and mechanical requirements.

Coating Options

Coatings are engineered around your specific wavelength and operating conditions.

Manufacturing Tolerances

We optimize specifications to match your system requirements — not over-specify. Tighter tolerances increase cost without always improving system performance. Our engineers will work with you to identify which parameters actually matter for your application and where standard tolerances are sufficient. Typical manufacturing capabilities:

Every component undergoes 100% inspection before shipment. We provide full inspection documentation including interferometer reports, spectral transmission curves, surface quality images and dimensional measurement data. Equipment capabilities:

Applications

Engineering Considerations

Solarization resistance: UV laser windows can develop color centers (solarization) over time, reducing transmission at the working wavelength. Use high-OH synthetic fused silica for 193nm to minimize this effect. For 355nm, standard UV-grade fused silica is usually sufficient.

Beam diameter and fluence: Always calculate fluence (J/cm²) from your pulse energy and beam diameter. Our coatings are rated for specific fluence ranges. Running near the damage threshold reduces coating lifetime significantly.

Window orientation: For polarized laser systems, consider Brewster-angle windows to eliminate reflection losses without coatings. This requires precise angle control in your mount.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prevent solarization in my UV laser window?
Use high-OH synthetic fused silica (e.g., Corning 7980) for wavelengths below 248nm. Ensure your laser fluence is well below the damage threshold. Regular cleaning with UV-grade solvents prevents contamination-induced damage that accelerates solarization.
What is the expected lifetime of a UV AR-coated window in a 355nm laser?
With proper fluence management (operating at <50% of LIDT), UV AR-coated fused silica windows typically last >8,000 hours at 355nm with <1% transmission degradation. The actual lifetime depends on cleanliness, humidity and average power.
Can these windows be used in vacuum chambers?
Yes. Fused silica windows are compatible with vacuum environments down to 10⁻⁶ mbar. Specify your vacuum requirements so we can recommend appropriate mounting and edge preparation to prevent outgassing.
