Material Options

Select the optimal optical material based on your wavelength, power, thermal environment and mechanical requirements.

Coating Options

Coatings are engineered around your specific wavelength and operating conditions.

Manufacturing Tolerances

We optimize specifications to match your system requirements — not over-specify. Tighter tolerances increase cost without always improving system performance. Our engineers will work with you to identify which parameters actually matter for your application and where standard tolerances are sufficient. Typical manufacturing capabilities:

Every component undergoes 100% inspection before shipment. We provide full inspection documentation including interferometer reports, spectral transmission curves, surface quality images and dimensional measurement data. Equipment capabilities:

Applications

Engineering Considerations

Meniscus for high power: For CO2 laser powers above 2kW, meniscus lenses are preferred over plano-convex because they distribute absorption heat more symmetrically, reducing thermal stress and thermal lensing effects.

Focal length selection: Shorter focal lengths (50–127mm) produce smaller focal spots for precision cutting. Longer focal lengths (200–500mm) provide larger depth of focus for thick material cutting.

Protective gas: ZnSe optics in CO2 cutting systems are exposed to assist gases and process byproducts. Use protective windows upstream and regular inspection to maintain lens performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What focal length should I choose for CO2 laser cutting?
For thin materials (<3mm), use short focal lengths (50–75mm) for small kerf width and high speed. For thick materials (3–25mm), use 127–254mm focal lengths for better depth of focus. For very thick materials (>25mm), consider 300–500mm with larger beam diameter.
How often should I replace my CO2 laser ZnSe lens?
With proper maintenance and clean operating conditions, ZnSe lenses typically last 3–6 months in industrial cutting environments. Replace when you notice: reduced cutting speed, increased power requirement for same cut quality, visible coating damage or surface contamination that cannot be cleaned.
Can ZnSe lenses be used with fiber lasers?
No. ZnSe is optimized for 10.6µm (CO2). For fiber lasers (1µm wavelength), use fused silica or BK7 lenses. ZnSe has very high absorption at 1µm and would be damaged immediately.
