For broadband imaging, an achromatic doublet usually outperforms a singlet lens. If your system operates across a wide wavelength range, chromatic correction becomes critical. For narrow-band or monochromatic applications, a singlet lens is often sufficient and more cost-effective. Always verify the clear aperture is large enough for your beam path — the usable aperture is typically 80–90% of the nominal diameter.
